Why Tenerife is the Perfect Family Destination All Year Round

When it comes to family holidays, few places tick as many boxes as Tenerife. This sun-drenched Canary Island has become one of our go-to destinations, and with good reason. Whether it’s the middle of summer or the depths of winter, Tenerife offers a warm welcome, countless activities for kids, and a relaxing vibe that keeps us coming back. Here’s why it’s such a fantastic spot for families all year round.

We mostly go to Tenerife in the cold season, every year in December just before Christmas and sometimes February too. We’ve always had around 25 degrees during the day, perfect for the beach, or sitting by the pool.

My daughter spends most of her day IN the water, be it the pool or the ocean, therefore, it’s a testament to the weather!

1. The Weather is Always Amazing

Tenerife is known as the “Island of Eternal Spring,” and it lives up to its name. With mild winters and warm summers, it’s a destination where you can pack light no matter the season. Even in December, we’ve enjoyed sunny days on the beach while the rest of Europe was bundling up in scarves and hats. The consistent weather makes planning so much easier—no need to second-guess your suitcase!

2. Beaches for All Ages

Let’s be honest: nothing beats a good beach day when you’re travelling with kids, and Tenerife is full of them. For a calm and relaxing day, head to Playa de Las Teresitas, where the golden sands and shallow waters are perfect for little ones. If your family is more into adventure, Playa de El Médano offers windsurfing and kiteboarding that older kids will love. Either way, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to scenic spots to lay down your towels.

3. Endless Adventures and Attractions

Tenerife is packed with things to do beyond the beach. Families will love visiting Loro Parque, a world-class zoo with everything from penguins to dolphins, or Siam Park, which has been crowned the world’s best water park more times than we can count. For something more low-key, take a cable car ride up Mount Teide and marvel at the volcanic landscape—it’s a fun and educational experience rolled into one.

4. A Taste of Culture and Local Flavour

It’s not all beaches and water parks; Tenerife has plenty of culture to explore too. The historic town of La Laguna is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with colourful streets, traditional architecture, and plenty of cafes where you can refuel with a coffee or a glass of fresh-squeezed juice. And don’t forget to try the local cuisine—Canarian potatoes with mojo sauce are a must!

5. Family-Friendly Accommodation and Dining

Tenerife knows how to cater to families. Many hotels have kids’ clubs, pools, and even babysitting services, giving parents a chance to unwind too. Restaurants are equally welcoming, with menus that cater to little taste buds and staff who go out of their way to make you feel at home. The food is truly great (please don’t end up eating in the local tourist traps - a quick Google search will show you the best places to eat at!) We certainly have our favourites!

6. It’s Easy to Get To and Around

Whether you’re flying from the UK or hopping over from mainland Spain, Tenerife is well-connected with direct flights available year-round. Once you’re on the island, renting a car is straightforward and relatively cheap (which we ALWAYS do) but public transport and taxis are family-friendly and affordable options too.

Conclusion

From its unbeatable weather to its endless activities for kids of all ages, Tenerife really is a year-round paradise for families. Whether you’re planning your first visit or, like us, find yourself coming back time and again, there’s always something new to discover.

We are sun seekers, and Tenerife never disappoints. Make sure to check out our Instagram for inspiration!
