Our family-friendly hiking bucket list in Trentino, Italy

Trentino is packed with incredible hikes that are perfect for families, and our crew has been making our way through a list of the best trails that balance adventure and child-friendly amenities.

So far, we've ticked off two of these trails (Cascate di Saènt and Lake Tovel), and they did not disappoint! From refreshing waterfalls to stunning lake views, each hike has been a blend of nature, exercise, and unforgettable family memories.

With four more trails left on our list, we're excited to keep exploring Trentino, one kid-friendly path at a time. Here’s the full list of our “to-do” trails—each offering something unique for families, with varying difficulty levels, handy amenities, and plenty of spots to stop, explore, and enjoy.

1. Lake Molveno Circular Trail

  • Difficulty: Moderate

  • Length: 11.3 km

  • Route Type: Circular

  • Amenities: The trail begins in Molveno, a town equipped with parking, benches, and picnic spots. Some sections may be rocky, so sturdy shoes are recommended. There are cafes and restrooms in Molveno itself.

2. The Hidden Forest of Daiano

  • Difficulty: Easy

  • Length: 5.3 km

  • Route Type: Circular

  • Amenities: Starting in Daiano, this interactive forest-themed trail includes areas for picnics and forest-life activities for kids. There are no restrooms on the trail, so plan accordingly.

3. Cascate di Saènt

  • Difficulty: Moderate

  • Length: 4.5 km

  • Route Type: Circular

  • Amenities: This popular trail, starting from Rabbi Valley, features a large car park, toilets, and a nearby café. There’s even a playground at the trailhead, which is perfect for children. The trail includes stunning waterfalls and offers plenty of spots for a family break or picnic.

4. Hike Around Lake Tovel

  • Difficulty: Easy

  • Length: 3.2 km

  • Route Type: Circular

  • Amenities: Situated in Adamello-Brenta Nature Park, Lake Tovel offers parking, picnic areas, and a visitor centre nearby. Toilets and a café are available at the lake entrance, making it a comfortable and scenic hike.

5. Monte Brione - Fort Sant'Alessandro

  • Difficulty: Moderate

  • Length: 6 km

  • Route Type: Circular

  • Amenities: This hike starts from the Port of San Nicolò and offers panoramic views of Lake Garda, historical forts, and benches for resting. There are cafes near the starting point, and the path is suitable for a family day of both hiking and sightseeing.

6. Cascate del Sarca di Vallesinella via Sentiero dell'Orso

  • Difficulty: Moderate

  • Length: 11.4 km

  • Route Type: Circular

  • Amenities: Known for its stunning waterfalls, this trail in Vallesinella provides a well-marked path through lush scenery. Though there are fewer amenities directly on the trail, nearby restaurants and toilets are accessible near the starting area.
