A Family Day Hiking at Cascate di Saènt, Italy

Our day at Cascate di Saènt was one for the books - not just because of the stunning waterfalls but also because of the little moments that turned a challenging hike into a family memory we’ll hold onto.

We arrived to find that Cascate di Saènt has all the conveniences you could hope for, which made starting our adventure a breeze. With a huge car park, toilets, a cosy café, and, much to our daughter’s delight, a big playground, we were set up for a fantastic day out. Isabella practically ran to the playground as soon as we arrived - she was absolutely obsessed! This meant we had a relaxed start to the hike, knowing she’d had her fun before hitting the trail.

The Wonder of Cascate di Saènt

The Cascate di Saènt waterfall, hidden within the lush Stelvio National Park, felt like something straight out of a fairy tale. With every step, we were greeted by the rush of water and breathtaking views, making the effort feel well worth it. It’s a sight that’s captivating for adults and exciting for kids, especially as they get closer and start to feel the mist from the falls.

But the highlight of our day came in the form of a tiny, unexpected guest. Midway through the hike, we noticed a sleepy bee buzzing close to us, almost like it wanted a ride. Isabella, ever the animal lover, quickly took charge of the situation, determined to “help the bee get her energy back.” She gently placed the tired bee on a piece of apple, and we watched as it sucked the sweetness out of the fruit, gradually regaining strength. It was such a special moment to see her compassion in action, and soon enough, the little bee buzzed off, energised and ready for more

Tips for a Family Hike to Cascate di Saènt

  • Pack Those Snacks: As we learned, having extra snacks on hand can make all the difference. Kids have a way of recharging on trail mix or apple slices, and it keeps them going through the challenging parts.

  • Best Time to Visit: To fully enjoy the hike, try to go in the late morning or early afternoon, ideally in the warmer months. It’s less crowded, and the weather is just right for a leisurely family adventure

  • Embrace the Unexpected: Whether it’s an encounter with a tired bee or a quick rest stop, let these little moments be part of the adventure. They add a layer of magic to the experience that kids remember most.

Winding Down

By the end of the day, we were all a bit tired but full of that satisfied glow that only comes after a good hike. Isabella was especially proud of herself - and rightly so. Cascate di Saènt wasn’t just another scenic spot; it was a place where we connected with nature and each other, one snack break and bee-saving mission at a time.
