A Few Hours in Riva del Garda – The Majestic Town We Keep Coming Back To
There’s something about Riva del Garda that keeps pulling us back year after year.
Nestled along Lake Garda’s northern shore, this charming town has become a family tradition—a place where we’ve built countless memories, splashed in cold waters, and savoured incredible food and gelato. Here’s what makes Riva del Garda one of our all-time favourite destinations for a perfect day out.
Swimming and Sunbathing by the Lake
On a warm summer day, there’s no better way to start than with a dip in the lake. The water here has that fresh, invigorating chill that’s surprisingly cold even in the hottest months, but somehow that’s part of the charm! We always lay our towels out on the lush grassy areas near the water, where benches dot the landscape, creating a park-like atmosphere perfect for families. Kids run and play, couples relax with picnics, and everyone finds their spot in the sun to enjoy the view
Dining at Bellavista Ristorante Pizzeria
After a refreshing swim, it’s time to refuel. Riva del Garda offers a range of dining options, but we always find ourselves returning to Bellavista Ristorante Pizzeria. This spot has never let us down—delicious pizza, authentic pasta, and that beautiful lake view. Whether we’re in the mood for a classic Margherita or a full Italian feast, Bellavista hits the mark every time. It’s the kind of place where we linger over a meal, enjoying both the food and the laid-back atmosphere.
The Inevitable Gelato Stop at Gelateria Artigianale
No visit to Riva would be complete without gelato, and Gelateria Artigianale, just around the corner from Bellavista, has become our go-to. With its rich, creamy flavours and generous scoops, it’s the perfect treat after a day by the water. Isabella always picks something fruity, while we alternate between pistachio and hazelnut—two classics that never disappoint!
Exploring the Lake by Boat
One of the best things about Riva del Garda is its connection to other lovely lakeside towns. From here, you can hop on a boat and cruise to Limone sul Garda, Malcesine, and more. Each town has its own unique charm, and the boat ride is an adventure in itself. Kids love the novelty of traveling across the lake, and it’s a fun way to see different parts of Lake Garda without needing to drive. This is hands-down one of the best ways to make a day trip feel like a mini-tour of Italy’s lake region.
Why We’ll Always Return to Riva
Riva del Garda has that special blend of natural beauty, relaxation, and family-friendly activities that makes it a perfect spot for us. Whether we’re cooling off in the lake, enjoying a great meal, or just lounging in the grass, there’s something about Riva that feels like home. It’s the ideal day out, with something for everyone to enjoy, and we know we’ll be back here again soon.
