Tenerife Hotel Review: Roca Nivaria

Hotel Roca Nivaria, Tenerife: A Family Favourite That Never Disappoints

When December rolls around, so does our annual family tradition: a meet-up in sunny Tenerife. It’s a chance for all of us - us, our daughter, and both sets of grandparents—to reconnect and spend quality time together. Sometimes, siblings join too, depending on their schedules. With one set of grandparents in Italy and the other between Moldova and Romania, this trip has become a special way to bridge the miles. And for the past three years, there’s been one place we always return to: the consistently wonderful Hotel Roca Nivaria.

Why We Keep Coming Back

Nestled in a quiet yet beautiful location, Hotel Roca Nivaria feels like the perfect escape. It’s just a 20-minute drive from the airport, making it incredibly convenient for a family arriving from different corners of Europe. We always rent a car - Tenerife is a fantastic island to explore - but even without one, the hotel has everything you need close by: shops, cafes, restaurants, and even a pharmacy, all right outside its doors.

From the moment we first stayed here, the staff’s warm welcome made a lasting impression. Over the course of three visits over three years, they’ve consistently delivered top-notch hospitality, creating an experience that feels personal and inviting.

The Food: Simple, Delicious, and Better Than Most

While the food at Roca Nivaria isn’t Michelin-starred, it’s far superior to what we’ve experienced at other resorts (looking at you, Melia!). One highlight we adore is the outdoor meat grill - just order your favourite cut of meat - perfectly cooked and full of flavour right there in front of you. Dinner outside under the stars, with a long-sleeve top if needed, has become one of our favourite rituals. Drinks are extra, but they’re reasonably priced, and the selection of wines is always great!

The Facilities: Something for Everyone

This hotel is a haven for families. The children’s pool and aquapark keep our daughter entertained for hours, while the saltwater pool, heated to perfection, is our go-to spot for a relaxing dip. There’s also a jacuzzi and a baby pool conveniently located next to the main one, making it easy to keep an eye on little ones. For those seeking peace and quiet, there is a large unheated adult pool.

One unique feature our daughter loves is the fish ponds and turtle habitat. She could spend hours sitting by the pond, watching the turtles go about their day. And if that isn’t enough, the hotel offers direct access to an empty, quiet beach via a lift - a quirky but fun touch!

The Rooms: Comfort Meets Functionality

The rooms at Roca Nivaria are as cosy as they are functional. The walk-in closets are a game-changer for keeping the space organised, while the large bathrooms offer plenty of room for a family. And then there’s the balcony - a highlight of every stay. Waking up to uninterrupted views of the ocean never gets old, I could live there on that balcony!

Why We’ll Keep Returning

Roca Nivaria continues to impress us with its thoughtful touches and family-friendly vibe. It’s not just a hotel; it’s where our family memories are made. With its stunning location, welcoming staff, fantastic facilities, and easy access to everything we need, it remains one of our favourite places. We’re already looking forward to our next visit - because some traditions are just too good to give up.

A Tip for Budget-Savvy Travellers

One of the best times to stay at Hotel Roca Nivaria is the week before Christmas. It’s much more affordable, with rooms for two adults and one child (half board) starting at around £1,400 for the week. As soon as you hit 24th December, prices double - so booking early and aiming for this window is key to enjoying a luxurious stay without breaking the bank.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a consistently excellent, family-friendly hotel in Tenerife, Roca Nivaria should be high on your list. It’s a place that brings people together and creates lasting memories—something we value more and more with each passing year.
